I did West Virginia and Maryland in one day starting from the river house just north of Luray Caverns. I left at 6AM and got back around 2:30PM. From Interstate 81 in Virginia, take exit 247 onto US 33 west at Harrisonburg. Follow US 33 west for 56 miles to a signed left turn onto Briery Gap Rd (County Road 33-4). Bear left at the junction with County Road 6. The road becomes Forest Road 112. Follow it to the ridge crest where you take a right on Forest Road 104 and follow it to the summit. It is about 11.5 miles from the main road following excellent signs to the summit. It turns to gravel pretty quickly but the road is was in very good shape. I had the parking lot to myself on a very nice Sunday morning.
